Information Minister assures that Citizens and travelers to Ghana are safe. This follows the rescue of two Canadians abductees

National Security Operatives, on early Wednesday morning, successfully rescued the two Canadian women recently abducted in the Ashanti Region.
Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the two aged 19 and 20 were rescued in a suburb of Kumasi by a police SWAT team.

The two Canadians were doing voluntary service with a non-governmental organisation in the Ashanti Region, were abducted on June 5 at Ahodwo, a suburb of Kumasi.
It is gathered that the driver of the vehicle used for the kidnapping who is a mechanic and one other person were arrested at the scene and assisted the security agencies arrest others involved in the crime.

The suspects have been flown to Accra.
Earlier in a statement, “Government encouraged the media and commentators to be circumspect in public commentary on security matters in order not to compromise other related operations.
The information minister stated that Citizens and travelers assured that Ghana remains safe”.
Meanwhile The National Security officials who held a crunch meeting at the Jubilee House have concluded that there is no actionable intelligence or imminent threat to the country’s safety.
They said the country’s risk profile remained largely unchanged despite the recent terrorist attacks in the West Africa sub-region.
A statement issued and signed by Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, urged Ghanaians, foreigners and visitors to continue their normal life without fear or panic.
It, however, encouraged all and sundry to be security conscious as always, adding that the Government would continue to re-tool the security apparatus to be ready to tackle any major security threat within the country’s jurisdiction.
