Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has received the report from the three-member committee tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Bavug Salim, a patient at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

The committee was established following allegations of negligence by hospital staff and was mandated to complete its work within two weeks. It submitted its report on Tuesday, August 26.

Presenting the findings, committee chairman Dr. Abdul Ibrahim Mohammed explained the processes undertaken, though the full details remain confidential until the Minister reviews them.

“We had a total of about 12 sittings where we met with the family of the patient, friends, staff of the hospital, who were actually within the Accident Emergency Department, and other staff who mattered in this issue.

Within the period of May and June, we were able to meet all of them. We also assessed the protocols and the Standard Operating Procedures the hospital had,” he said.

Receiving the report, Minister Akandoh stressed that the case was of significant public concern and assured Ghanaians that the recommendations would be acted upon.

“This became an issue of public concern, but once the committee has sat on it and the report has been presented, the people of this country must know that the report has been presented,” he stated.

He further pledged that details of the report would be made public at the appropriate time and that all recommendations would be implemented to strengthen accountability in the health sector.
