GRIDCO holds 7th Biennial Congress in Tamale with Wisdom Adenyo retaining his position as the National Chairman of Senior Staff Association

The Senior Staff Association (SSA) of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) has held its 7thbiennial congress in Tamale, Northern Regional Capital, during which Mr. Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, retained his position as National Chairman for another two years. He secured 56 votes as against 34 ballots by Eliot Danso Appiah.

The congress which brought together members from all networks across the country, was to enable the leadership to render account of the stewardship. It was also to elect new officers and for the SSA to explore ways of partnering with management to sustain and improve upon GRIDCO’s performance in the last 16 years and conditions of service.

Held under the theme: “Forging Partnership for a resilient and sustainable energy future,”  the GRIDCO Senior Staff also at the end of their two day congress in Tamale, elected Guggisberg Asante as National vice chair,  Morrison Edem Essah as National General Secretary,  Vida Aheto Abakwam, Assistant , Saani Suleman, National Treasurer.

The Guest speaker at the event, Engineer Frank Otchere, who is the acting Deputy Chief Executive of GRIDCO, challenged the SSA to support management to achieving the company’s overall mission of building a robust transmission network that will bring socio-economic benefits to the country.

With Rapid technological advancement, environmental challenges and shifting economic condition, strategic partnership is no longer an option, but crucial. The future of energy is not built in isolation, but through partnerships” he stated.

Ing. Otchere said collaboration was the foundation of sustainable development and this must be pursued with stakeholders including the government, the private sector and other multilateral institutions. 

These would enable us bring resources and expertise together. Internally as GRIDCO, I would encouraging working in teams and sharing knowledge or building capacities in order to reap results together,” the Deputy CEO stated.

Earlier Engineer Wisdom Adenyo said, GRIDCO’s challenges includes market share, cash flow issues, the need to expand its infrastructure. Mr. Adenyo urged management to seek for strong partnership and collaboration. They must also seek for tax waivers on import of materials and equipment and also pursue vigorous debt recovery.

He promised that his team would ensure labour protection in addition to achieving a high level of industrial harmony to keeping the lights on across the country.

Engineer Bernard Kwabena Asante Gyan, Director, Northern Network Department at GRDICO who was the chairman for the occasion, said the congress should become a moment to pause and acknowledging their contributions to the continued development of the company. According to him, the challenges ahead will require staff to be strategic, innovative and proactive.
