GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE DISCUSSIONS WITH FIFA IN ZURICH ON THURSDAY

It has emerged that the government of Ghana will continue discussions with FIFA on the way forward for Ghana football in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday, 28th June, 2018.

In an official invitation letter to the minister of youth and sports, Isaac Asiamah and signed by FIFA’s Director of Member Associations in Africa and the Caribbean, Véron Mosengo-Omba on Tuesday called for representatives from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and ‘elite’ clubs in Ghana to attend the meeting.

The meeting, according to the letter is to continue discussions with FIFA.

The demands of the letter has however raised eyebrows among some section of Ghanaian fans who feel outraged that members of the erstwhile administration of the GFA are attending the meeting contrary to what government had said about FIFA sanctioning their resolve to dissolve the GFA and therefore barring any member of that association from acting for or on behalf of Ghana.

The FIFA letter stated that “Mr Eyiah Kweku Abaku and Mr. Alex Asante will represent the Ghana Football Association at the meeting. Please note that Mr. Asante will also meet with members of the FIFA administration so that they can facilitate the participation of the Ghana U-20 women’s national team at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 (5 – 24 August 2018). Additionally, the Ghana elite league clubs will be represented by Mr. Samuel Brew-Butler and Mr. Papa Nduom at this meeting. ”

Perhaps this portion also brings some hopes to the followers of women football in Ghana who had been worried about the women national team’s participation in the World Cups.

Both the GFA and Caf have been copied.
