Government asked to immediately implement recommendations in the recent fact-finding committee report on the violence at Chereponi.

The Executive Secretary for the Peace Council in the Northern Region, Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah has urged government to immediately implement recommendations in the recent fact-finding committee report on the violence at Chereponi.

He said the seven member committee which he is a member diagnosed inadequate security personnel and the lack of logistics for security operations on the grounds as some of the challenges that needed urgent fixing.

Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Kuusah, in an exclusive interview with Diamond News, in his comments following the renewed violence in the Chereponi area, called for a speedy judiciary process to prosecute offenders that were arrested during last December conflict.

He said many of the people affected by the conflict feel bitter that known perpetrators that were arrested have still not prosecuted and that could mean, they will soon use violence to seek revenge.

Rev. Fr. Thaddeus also called on the National Deserter Management Organization (NADMO) to immediately take step to commence the distribution of relief items to displaced persons affected by the conflict.

He recounted how he and other peace brokers had to contribute for the survival of several hard-hit victims of the January violence in some of the affected communities.

There were some fresh attacks on some Chekosi communities on Sunday morning in the Chereponi district of the North East Region, leading to several people including women and children fleeing the troubled area.

A team of military and police operatives have been dispatched to the hotspots and have almost taken control of the area.
