GNPC Foundation provides 40 boreholes to deprive communities in the Northern Region

40 out of 100 boreholes being constructed and funded by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) foundation are in the Northern Region alone.

The Executive Directing of the GNPC foundation, Dr Dominic Eduah who announced this, at a borehole commissioning ceremony at Kanshegu in the Savelugu Municipality stated that providing potable water to communities is one of many interventions under the GNPC’s Environment & Social Amenities module is undertaking across the country.

The 10 beneficiary MMDAs in the Northern Region include Central and Gonja, Savelugu, Mamprugu Moagduri, Tatali/Sanguli, Bunkprugu/Yunyoo, West Mamprusi, Nanton, East Mamprusi and Tolon.

The Foundation’s Executive Director said, GNPC is currently present in the Voltain basin and undertaking studies to establish the presence of oil in commercial quantities.

Dr Eduah charged the beneficiaries to maintain facilities even as he pledges more support to the north by way of environment and social amenities, education and training and economic empowerment.

Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed who commissioned the boreholes said government would continue to provide an enabling environment for development assistance to take place. He was happy that water which is a priority need had been considered by the foundation.

Mr. Saeed also appreciated the cordiality that has existed between the GNPC and communities in the region where the corporation is undertaking studies and also for employing some of the local and building their capacities in a way.

The MCE for Savelugu, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu said educational infrastructure and lack of school furniture were challenges that needed urgent assistance. She asked for more support particularly for brilant but needy students in the municipality.

The Chief of Kanshegu, Naa Amadu Mahama, assured the GNPC Foundation that the people of Kanshegu would make good use of the facilities provided the community.
