GIISDEC to seek the needed investment for Sheini ore

Board chairman of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), Farouk Aliu Mahama, has assured the people of Yendi and its environs that the GIISDEC board will seek the needed investment to explore the iron ore deposit at Sheini.

According to him, the Sheini iron ore deposit if given the needed investment will provide both direct and indirect jobs to the people of Yendi to  better their lives.

Farouk Aliu Mahama, who is also the MP for Yendi stated this when he led the board members of GIISDEC to Yendi on Friday 19th November 2021 to pay a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, and other  sub chiefs and opinion leaders in the area.

The board members include Mr Abdul Razak Adam, Lawyer Kay F Amoah, Lawyer Hanifa Yahaya,Mr Kwabena Bonsu, Mr Addo Kwame Asirifi ,Mr Baba Mohammed Tajudine ,Yakubu A. Yakubu.

The rest are Mr Kwabena Bonsu Fordwor, Mr. Haruna Abdulai, Ernest Kusi, and Patrick Nyarko.

Speaking at the Gbewaa palace, Faruck Aliu Mahama said the board was ready to ensure the iron ore deposits at Sheini gets the needed investment.

“I want to assure the King of Dagbon that, we are going to unlock the resource potentials Sheini and in collaboration with the palace, we will work closely with you and by 2022 Sheini will have the biggest mining site in Ghana”. he assured.

 “I have two responsibilities – I’m the MP, elected with a mandate for the people of Yendi and as Board Chairman of GIISDEC, I will use my position to unlock the value of Sheini.The area is sitting on a multi-billion dollar ore and we won’t allow it go waste” he added.

In his welcome remarks, the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari II, whiles commending the GIISDEC Board Members for their appointment also entreated them to be transparent and guided by the national interest.

He however, gave his assurance and the readiness of the traditional authority to collaborate with the board to ensure they achieve their agenda for the betterment of the region and the country at large.

Meanwhile the board chairman of the GIISDEC, Farouk Aliu Mahama, after the curtesy call also cautioned staff of the GIISDEC office in Yendi to be disciplined at their work.

“We will not hesitate to sacked anyone whose behavior will inpade the progress of this office, and we have set up an agenda and all of you should make sure we achieve that agenda, he warned.
