GIFEC launches two-week ICT training for female teachers in Northern, Savanna and North East Region

Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) in collaboration with International Telecommunication Unit (ITU), has commenced two weeks training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for some selected 30 female teachers in the Northern sector of the country. 

The beneficiary teachers were drawn from North East, Savanna and Northern Region.

The two weeks training aims to provide the teachers with key ICT abilities, to enhance the teaching of ICT in basic schools in the regions. The training is also expected to bridge the digital gap between urban and the rural communities. 

Addressing the media after the official launched, the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, said as part of the mandate of GIFEC, the initiative would be expanded to other unserved and underserved rural area across the country. 

He said the government is putting measures in place to revamp and retool community information centres as well as rebranding GIFEC to bring digital skills to the doorsteps of the citizenry, especially in rural areas to propel the country’s digital economy agenda.

Dr Computer indicated that, the beneficiaries’ teachers after the training, will receive a laptop each from GIFEC installed with educational software to help them in impacting the knowledge to their students.
