General Joshua Hamidu dies at 85 years

A former Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General (Retired), Joshua Mahamadu Hamidu, is reported dead.

He passed away on Monday evening at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra where he was on admission.

According to Family sources the funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later in view of the ban on such events by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

General Hamidu, aged 85, served under the Supreme Military Council government and later under the fourth republic, was a National Security adviser to President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2001 and a High Commissioner to Nigeria under the same government.

He chaired the Narcotics Control Board and was a member of some boards including the Bank of Ghana.

Joshua Hamidu, a native of Sunsun near Yendi was accused of complicity in the murder of the Dagbon overlord Ya-na Yakubu Andani II in March 2002, however he was cleared by the Wuaku Commission that investigated the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
