Some residents of Gbabshie, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis have accused palace guards at Nanton Naa, Bawa Fuseini’s palace of firing gunshots into the community over the weekend.
They alleged that some miscreants believed to be palace guards at Nanton Naa’s palace between Friday night and Saturday, laid ambush and strategically fired gunshots indiscriminately into the Gbashie community.
“This is not their first time, they have done that. A few months ago, during a naming ceremony, our community experienced similar indiscriminate firing of arms, yet we have done nothing wrong and have not involved ourselves in any chieftaincy issues,” the community members claimed.”
They are vowing to crush anyone who tries to foment trouble in the area.
Gbabshie is a farming community in the Tamale Metropolis that according to the inhabitants, in recent times had witnessed a series of gunshots, sparking fear and panic among the community members.
Dokurugu Lansah, one of the Gbabshie Community members, explaining their frustrations to Diamond News said “We have been gripped with unimaginable fears. We don’t understand why this is happening to us, because we have not wronged anybody to deserve this kind of treatment.”
Those that spoke to Diamond News indicated that there hasn’t been any casualty, however, their families particularly women and children who fled from the community are yet to return to their homes.
“Since yesterday, we haven’t tasted any food. Because of this barbaric shooting, our wives and children fled from the community and we don’t know what is going on because we are peace lovers”, another resident, preferring to be anonymous shared his frustrations.
Meanwhile secretary at the Nanton palace, Alhaji Anass has denied the allegations, saying the youth at the palace are law abiding citizens; hence the claims should be disregarded.
