GAF denies arrest of Brigadier General Michael Opoku
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed reports circulating in the media suggesting that Brigadier General Michael Opoku has been arrested by security operatives for possessing ammunition.
In a statement signed by Captain V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Armed Forces said checks with security agencies and national investigative bodies had not corroborated the alleged arrest.
“The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed,” the statement noted.
The GAF further assured the public that, despite the false report, any military personnel found culpable of criminal activity would be subjected to due legal processes like any other citizen.
Describing the report as false and misleading, the Armed Forces urged the public to disregard it and cautioned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation.
