Four killed in Buipe–Tamale road crash involving hit-and-run trailer
Four people have died following a road accident on the Buipe-Tamale road, according to the Ghana National Fire Service.
The service said the crash occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Sawaba No. 2, involving a Sprinter Benz bus travelling from Buipe to Kumasi and a trailer truck that fled the scene.
In an official release, the GNFS said 19 passengers had already been transported to the Buipe Government Hospital before its crew arrived.
Firefighters from the Buipe Fire Command later extricated three trapped victims from the minibus.
Four people — two female and two males — died, with three pronounced dead at the scene and one later at the hospital.
The bodies of those who died at the scene were handed over to police for preservation and further investigation.
The Sprinter bus sustained extensive damage, with preliminary findings indicating the trailer truck caused the crash before escaping.
The GNFS said the swift intervention of its crew, led by Station Officer II Abubakar M. Sheriff, helped prevent further casualties and ensured survivors received timely medical attention.
In a separate incident the same day, the GNFS responded to a domestic fire at Ashaiman Tulaku, near Ghana Water along Gulf City Road.
Fire crews from Ashaiman, Motorway, Tema Regional Headquarters, and Industrial fire stations, supported by a municipal water tanker, brought the blaze under control after nearly three hours of operations.
Several wooden structures were destroyed, while six metal containers were partially damaged. Firefighters, however, salvaged seven metal containers, eight wooden structures, and an ECG pylon.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Tema Regional Commander ACFO II Patrick Sallah and other senior officers were present to support operations.
