NPP Organizer defects to the NDC

A former Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savelugu Constituency of the Northern Region, Alhaji Mohammed Hafiz, has painted a dire picture of the party after defecting to the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Alhaji Mohammed Hafiz who is also the Northern Regional Deputy Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the attitude of some party members and executives at the regional level compelled him to defect to the NDC.

Speaking on Diamond FM on Tuesday May 9, 2023, Alhaji Mohammed Hafiz described his former party as ‘jungle and demons’ organization. “NPP is not a political party, NPP is a jungle organization or demons because their actions towards the council of elders of the party is nothing to write home about.”

“I realized that NDC is a good party, and it is the party that can grow a young man like me. I can testify to you that NPP is not a political party. It is the party that can destroy Ghanaian youth and I don’t want to be a victim of that,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed Hafiz while enumerating the difficulties he encounters within the NPP, indicated that, the decision by the leadership of the NPP in the northern region to call off Savulegu constituency elections in April 28, 2022, without any consultation was among the reasons he joined NDC.

“If you are counting your lost it will be gotten to a point that you have to advice yourself. You can just count one lost and exit. So the loses I counter on NPP I can mention it, last year for instance, they open a nomination for us to contest. I spent a lot of money on my campaign, but unfortunately they call off Savulegu constituency elections without any proper consultation. No official communication, nothing. And so, I found it very insulting, disrespectful, and very disgraceful to the good standing people like me hence, my reason to defect”.

“I will do everything in my capacity to ensure our great NDC win power come 2024,” he pledges.

Alhaji Mohammed Hafiz, in 2015 contested the NPP Savulegu constituency parliamentary primaries elections but lost to the former MP for Savulegu Honorable Somed Gunu. He was appointed as the Deputy Northern Regional director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in 2017, when his former party NPP won power in 2016.
