A former Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority (NDA), Dr. Alhassan Sulemana Anamzoya, has petitioned the Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, protesting and requesting the Minister to prevent Venus Films Production from premiering a movie tittle “Savannah”.

The movie among other things portrays the people of Dagbon, who sometime back practiced Female Genital Mutilation, which many indigenes of Dagbon have described as untrue and alien to the Dagbon culture.

The former NDA Boss, currently a senior lecturer at the Sociology Department of the University of Ghana Legon in his petition said, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is alien and unknown to Dagbon, and therefore should not be premiered.

Dr. A. S Anamzoya wants the tourism ministry to ban Venus Film Production from airing the movie, “saying movie industry is a powerful tool and could be an avenue to project the customs of societies across the globe. Most people would attach credibility to them in the movies especial when the language use in the movie is tied to a particular known group, or when the architectural and geographical in the movie settings depicts a known society”.
