The Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhaji Mohammed Harun Cambodia has expressed worry over the decline in academic performance among candidates in the region that sit the WACCE and BEC Examinations.
ALHAJI MOHAMMED HARUN who made the revelation during the commissioning of several developmental project at Savelugu Senior High School in the Savelugu Municipality, said the situation thus calls for a multi-faceted approach to stem the problem.
He stated that the past years the region had witnessed a worrying decline in educational performance and mentioned the failure of various stakeholders in the region to effectively contribute to reversing the current trend of eduction.
The management of the Savelugu senior School led by the head master of the school using the school’s internally generated fund undertook several developmental projects including a new administration block, construction of reservoirs, a sick bay for students among others.
Speaking to Diamond News after commissioning the sick bay of the school, Alhaji Harun indicated that Parents and teachers had also failed to perform their respective roles effectively, thereby leading to moral degeneration, which is also affecting education in the region.
The regional Director of Education however called on parents and other stakeholders to pay more attention on the education sector to improving the situation. Alhaji Harun Cambodia commended the management of Savelugu Senior School for coming out with such initiatives, saying it will lead to quality teaching and learning in the school.
On his part the headmaster of Savelugu Senior School, Felix Kwame, stated that the water challenges and unavailability of administration block called for such initiatives to be materialized.
