The Ghana Police Service has refuted reports that exhibits in an ongoing narcotics case in the Eastern Region have disappeared, insisting that all 36 sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp remain intact.

In a statement, the Police Administration urged the public to disregard what it described as false media claims that the impounded sacks had turned into sawdust. Officials confirmed that both the seized truck and the exhibits are still in the custody of the Eastern Regional Command.

The case involves a Kia truck with registration number ER-760-23, which was intercepted on the Sekesua road on 30th September 2025. Officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua arrested the driver after discovering that, in addition to sawdust, the vehicle was carrying 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics.

The truck was subsequently conveyed to the Sekesua Police Station, but the driver and his mate managed to escape, abandoning the vehicle. Police say efforts have been intensified to re-arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has commenced investigations into the matter as part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability in the handling of the case.
