“Do not interfere with Police investigations into Saturday attacks”, Chiefs and Religious leaders told.

The Coalition of Tamale Youth Groups is urging Chiefs, Politicians, Religious leaders and other opinion leaders not to interfere with police investigations into the riot that led the destruction of property at the Lamashegu Police Divisional command and the VRA office in Tamale.

“The Coalition also use this opportunity to appeal to the Opinion Leaders, Chiefs, Politicians and Religious Leaders to support the investigations and not interfere in any form in the cause of the investigations”.

In a statement condemning the Saturday September 25th attacks, the group described it as bizarre and unfortunate and “request the Police to immediately investigate into the unprovoked attacks and all those found to have planned and participated in the act to be punished accordingly”.

Below is the full statement from the Coalition of Tamale Youth Groups.

TAMALE COALITION OF YOUTH CONDEMNS UNPROVOKED ATTACK ON PUBLIC FACILITIES

The Coalition of Tamale Youth Groups unreservedly condemned the attacks on two public installations on Saturday 25th, September, 2021 by some enthusiastic group of people in Tamale.

The unidentified group, purporting to be members of the Tamale youth, stormed the offices of the NEDCO Complaints department and the Divisional Police Station at Lamashegu, demanding what they called injustices mated out to some residents of Nakpabzoo, a suburb of Tamale over an alleged electricity theft last week.

It would be recalled that, immediately this incident occurred, the Coalition of Tamale Youth Groups issued a statement condemning the unprofessional behaviors of the Police and the staff of the utility providers and requested the Minister of Interior to immediately cause an investigation into the behavior of the Police and NEDCO staff.

This call was swiftly responded to, and those personnel involved were interdicted in less than twenty-four hours. Additionally, the Police Command and the Management of NEDCO rendered an unqualified apology to the victims and even took the needed steps to compensate them.

The Coalition and other well-meaning Ghanaians praised the swift manner both Institutions responded to the situation.

It became bizarre that on Saturday 25th, September, 2021 that this unfortunate situation occurred during a supposed protest.

The Coalition, apologizes on behalf of the entire youth of Tamale to the affected institutions and also request the Police to immediately investigate into the unprovoked attacks and all those found to have planned and participated in the act to be punished accordingly.

The Coalition also use this opportunity to appeal to the Opinion Leaders, Chiefs, Politicians and Religious Leaders to support the investigations and not interfere in any form in the cause of the investigations.

The Coalition is reminding the youth of Tamale to learn to cultivate using the right procedures and channels in addressing their grievances especially in situations of this nature.

Thank You.
