Diamond fM gains recognition in its ODF advocacy campaign

Diamond fm is among institutions and individuals that acknowledged and awarded for playing leading roles in the campaign to end open defecation (OD) in the Northern region by 2019.

At a launch of the district launch of the 5th inter-districts ODF league Table, organized the Regional Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and other development partners, Diamond was presented with a citation for the station’s efforts in championing an Open Defecation Free advocacy via the media.

Might FM based at Savelugu was among the awardees, which also saw some distinguished Environmental sanitation field officers from Gushegu and Tatale also been acknowledge.

The citation which was received by Diamond fM’s Alhassan Yakubu on behalf of the station read in part: “You have demonstrated the ability to partner with other institutions to create a buzz round the subject of open defecation by continually airing jingles and themes that reminds house owners and the public to defecate in toilets.”

“You have been able to mobilize your own resources to develop a various of IEC messages on ODF in support o the region’s open defecation free agenda by December 2019 and we encourage other media houses to emulate Diamond fM’s great initiative.

At the event; Water and Sanitation specialist at UNICEF field office in Tamale, Ms Gloria Nyemba, commended the WASH partners for their dedication towards resolving the challenges posed by open defecation in the northern region.

She also tasked stakeholders not to relent with efforts towards ending Open Defecation.

Tatale-Sanguli was adjudged the best, out 26 MMDAs in the Northern Region for ODF followed by Mion.
Tamale which has performed abysmally in the ODF fight was ranked the 25th position that is second to last.
