Desist from power theft – Sheikh Al-Habib Dawud urges Muslim Umma in Tamale
A renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Al-Habib Dawud Adabiya, has condemned the surge of electricity theft within the greater Tamale area in the Northern Region.
According to him stealing electricity power is a sin hence those involved must desist from the act.
Addressing Muslim umma during a Friday congregational prayers at his Mosque in Tamale, Sheikh Al-Habib reminds Muslims umma that the Quran explicitly prohibits theft.
“Stealing electricity, just like any other form of theft, is seen as taking what is not rightfully yours, infringing on the rights of property owners and the community”, he said.
He emphasized the importance of Muslims respecting and obeying the laws of the land.
“The act of commanding good and forbidding evil, such as urging someone to stop power theft, is considered a great act of brotherly love and a commitment to the guidance and goodness that benefit the entire community,” he said.
He thus encouraged Muslim umma of the greater Tamale and Northern Region at large to live in a way that benefits the community and avoids harm to others. “Participating in theft or other unlawful acts goes against Islamic principle”.
It is revealed by Management of VRA that 50% of the total power losses recorded by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) originate from the Northern sector, with 70% of that figure concentrated in Tamale alone.
Management of the VRA/NEDCo attributed these losses to the widespread illegal connections.
