DEPUTY IGP CALLS FOR MORE PROFESSIONALISM FROM POLICE PERSONNEL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST ILLICIT DRUG TRADE

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, COP. James Oppong Boanuh has admonished police personnel across the country to exhibit fairness, firmness and professionalism in the fight against illicit drugs trafficking.

He said the fight against illicit drugs is more challenging and difficult, hence demanded a high sense of professionalism among security personal to with the situation in the country.

COP Oppong Boanuh said the Police administration will solidly be behind police personnel who in the line of duty stand on their grounds against unnecessary pressure from opinion leaders in society.

Speaking at the regional launch of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLFU) in Tamale, the Deputy IGP urged the public to provide the police with relevant information that will lead to the arrest of drug peddlers.

The Northern regional Minister Salifu See-ad in his remark appealed to the Police administration to increase resource allocation to the region to ensure effective policing since there is an increasing crime rate which demanded more resource to ensure the protection of lives and property.

The regional Minister added that, well resource Police command within the region will give confidence to neighboring Francophone countries for increased investments in the region.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime will provide basic and advance drug trafficking investigations training courses to personal from the CID and also presented some operational tools and drug test kits to the DLF Unit in Tamale.

A representative from the Italian embassy in Ghana Bernard H. Asamoah on behalf of the Italian government presented two motor bikes to the unit to enhance their work.
