Customs commander who transformed Tamale collection point, retires honorably.

His transfer to the Northern Region was to meant to be a punishment, but according to Paul Kwesi Ahiakpor, such predicament challenged him to work extra hard in order to shame his detractors.

So doing Following the “order” or immediate transfer and subsequently taking up the challenge he said he managed to lead his personnel at the customs division of the Ghana revenue authority at the Tamale collection point to garner revenue between 170 to almost 200 percent in two succession years, that is 2018 and 2019. These were far more than the targets set for his collection point.

On Friday, November 22, 2019, 60 year old Paul Ahiakpor also a lawyer Ahiakpor bowed honorably out of public service as an assistant commissioner- Ghana revenue authority, customs division and crowned it up with a grand send off party held at the Aliu Mahama stadium with several guests including the Northern Regional minister, Salifu Saeed as chairman for the occasion.

According to the retiree has earned the nick-named; “Swagon Papa” among colleagues in uniform, the business community and his funs, his public service started in May 1985 as intelligence and counter intelligence officer before being granted departmental transfer from the BNI to the newly created CEPS. He has since worked in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Honuta and Ho collection points of Customs.

Mr. Ahiakpor having worked acidulously had these memories to share with the large audience of family, friends, former colleagues and loved ones that filled the hall with occasional applauses and ovasions.

Mr. Salifu Saeed, who doubles as REGSEC chairman acknowledged Assistant Commissioner of Custom Ahaikpor’s commitment to the GRA and even the REGSEC where he played a pivotal role including offering his legal ideas pro-bono to the council.

While wishing him well in retirement, Salifu Saeed encourage others in both public and civil service to emulate the exemplarily leadership of Mr. Ahiakpor.

The retiree was presented several gifts including a citation and portrait from personnel that worked under him.
