Birth certificate is the only document that can guarantee nationality and also give access to other national registration platforms, says Births and Deaths registry official in Tamale.

Assistant registrar at the Births and Deaths registry at the Tamale Metro Office, Abdul-Fatawu M.K Dawuda has urged the public to consider registering their dead relatives to assist government in planning the National development agenda.

He explained that, figures at the registry are a source of data for the government and other development partners that help in determining resources allocation to various parts of the country.

Speaking to Diamond News in an interview, Abdul-Fatawu Dawuda also stressed the need for individuals without birth certificates to consider acquiring one because of the numerous benefits that came with it.

He said a birth certificate is the only document that can guarantee nationality and also give access to other national registration platforms.

Abdul-Fatawu M.K Dawuda however lamented the inadequate staffing at the Births and Deaths registry that was impeding the smooth operations of the registry.

He said many people at the rural level are unable to access their services since they lack the personnel and logistics to offer their services to the rural folks.
