Bawumia pledges world-class dev’t, cites digital innovations as proof
Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to delivering world-class development if elected President, citing his record of innovation and digital transformation as proof of his capability.
Dr. Bawumia made the promise on the final day of his tour of the Bono East Region, where he visited all 11 constituencies, ending the regional tour with engagements in Techiman North and South.
Addressing delegates, Dr. Bawumia highlighted key initiatives he has championed as Vice President since 2017, including the introduction of the Ghana Card, which he said places Ghana among a few nations with a robust national identification system.
“The Ghana Card is something very few countries have. Even the UK, America, and Canada don’t have a comprehensive national ID system, but the UK is now looking to do what Ghana has done,” he said.
He also pointed to the implementation of the Mobile Money Interoperability platform, describing it as a groundbreaking innovation that has made Ghana the only country in Africa with such a system.
“The number of mobile money accounts has increased from 8 million to 24 million, and MoMo agents have grown from 107,000 to over 900,000 because of this intervention,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia further mentioned the Zipline medical drone delivery initiative, positioning Ghana as a global leader in medical logistics, and emphasized that countries like the UK are now seeking to replicate the model.
Emphasising his vision for the presidency, Dr. Bawumia stated, “That is why I say, when you vote for me, I will bring world-class development. You can believe me because what I have done as Vice President shows that I will do even more as President.”
He also highlighted improvements in access to healthcare services, such as the ease of renewing National Health Insurance through digital platforms, as part of his vision to make life more comfortable for Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia’s Bono East tour is part of his wider “Our Journey Together” campaign to engage NPP delegates and grassroots members across the country ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
