“Any attempt to swear in Mr Asampana to UDS Council will lead to chaos in UDS campus,”- TEWU-GH warned
The National Executives of the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH), has appealed to the Minister of Education and the Management of University for Development Studies (UDS) to suspend the swearing-in of Mr. Emmanuel Asampana to the UDS Council.
According to the Union, the representation on to the Council is in dispute which has not been resolved, hence the call.
Mr. Emmanuel Asampana who is a Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU-TUC) leader of the UDS was nominated to represent the union on the UDS Council.
But in a statement issued on Friday 25, 2025, and copied to Diamondfmonline.com, the national executives of TEWU-GH described the move as illegitimate and illegal and need not be entertained.
They argue that the records available at University for Development Studies shows that TEWU-GH has membership of seven hundred (700) while TEWU-TUC has a membership of fourteen (14) hence it is inappropriate for Mr Asampana who had smaller membership to represent the union at the council.
Speaking to Diamondfmonline.com, Mr Chairs Arttah a member of the national executive committee of the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH), warned that any attempt to swear in Mr Asampana will lead to chaos in UDS campus.
“This issue of swearing-in Mr. Emmanuel Asampana came up last year (2024) but he was not sworn-in because the matter was in dispute and has not been resolved. Since the matter has not been resolved, Mr. Emmanuel Asampana cannot be sworn-in to represent the Unions,” he stated.
“We therefore plead with the Minister of Education and the Management of UDS to suspend the swearing-in of Mr. Emmanuel Asampana until the matter is resolved to prevent any industrial disharmony in UDS campus.”
