Assemblyman for Ward K Electoral Area of the Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region, Honorable Salim Abubakari, has petitioned the national vetting committee for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) over the final three shortlisted names forwarded to the Presidency for the role of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sagnarigu.

According to him, lack of due diligence and proper planning during the vetting process, may have influenced the final determination of shortlisted participants, hence the letter.

Hon. Salim Abubakari who is also a Presiding Member for the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly was part of the several applicants vying for Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.

The Ward K assemblyman in his letter also indicated that, “I also petitioned the qualified assembly members who expressed interest in this position to add their quota to this reset agenda should be given the opportunity to further go through vetting by the National Vetting Committee including my very self”.

Three dedicated members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Sagnarigu Municipality have been shortlisted and their names forwarded to the Presidency for the role of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sagnarigu.

The first candidate is Mr Inusah Salman Faris, Mohammed Awal Super, and Abdulai Imoro Gong.

But Honorable Salim Abubakari in his statement claimed that his outfit possessed a deeper understanding of the Sagnarigu Municipality and its people, therefore deserved to be part of the final three names.

The National Chairman

National Democratic Congress Headquarters, Accra.

Dear Sir,

PETITION TO THE VETTING COMMITTEE (MMDCEs)

I formally write to petition this august committee concerning the recent vetting process for the position of Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu

In acknowledging the work and effort put out through the vetting process, I am equally concerned as a member of National Democratic Congress, Assembly member for Ward K electoral area and the Dean of presiding members in Northern Region, that  lack of due diligence, proper planning and “side choosing” may have influenced the final determination of shortlisted participants. And I also petition that qualified assembly members who expressed interest in this position to add their quota to this reset agenda should be given the opportunity to further go through vetting by the National Vetting Committee including my very self.

As a member, I possess a deep understanding of the Sagnarigu Municipality and its people. And I am also confident in my competency to support the reset agenda within the local governance space. As the presiding Member, my experience, knowledge of the local issues and commitment to the development of the municipality make me highly qualified for this role.

I respectfully pray for the invention of your august Committee to include our name if not all as we exhibit the requisite capabilities and have actively contributed to the growth of Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly (SagMA).

As there is an adage that ‘the person playing the role of washing dishes equally deserve to be part of eating the meal’, you already know the tremendous roles PMs  plays  in the various communities and for that matter Ghana as a whole . From the selection of Council of State Members, shaping the discourse of local governance through NALAG and fora, taking the immediate ‘bullets’ for the citizens we lead and so on, this will be the least to be done for our respected members.

Previously, we managed to get assemblies a majority of members from our (NDC) base coupled with the inputs and sacrifices of PMs to ensure the smooth running of the day to day activities of the Assemblies; we feel that what is good for the goose is equally good for the gander.

On the contributions made to the growth of the National Democratic Congress, Personally i have always contributed and again did so greatly before and during the recent general elections. Failure to include my name in the shortlisted candidates would mean no appreciation of the efforts of assembly members and for that matter demoralizing members from contributing towards the party success especially at the grassroots level.

We trust that the committee will give this petition the due consideration it deserves and ensure that the process remains fair and inclusive.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
