A-64-year-old farmer, Fuseini Musah has been adjudged Best Farmer at the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region.
For his prize, Fuseini Musah who is also a sub chief of Tuu at Satan, a farming community in the Kumbungu district received a tricycle, cutlasses, pair of wellington boots and a certificate.
The first runner-up received a motor bike, cutlasses and a pair of wellington boots.
The awardees ranged from Best Crop Farmer, Best Livestock Farmer, Best Fish Folk Farmer, Best Agro Forester, Best Physical Challenge Farmer, and Best Agric Officer.
They also received prizes ranging from motor bikes, smart televisions, refrigerators, cutlasses, wellington boots and certificates.
The ceremony was held at Zangbaling – a farming community in the Kumbungu District, and was attended by staff of Kumbungu District Assembly, Heads of Department, various political leaders, and Paramount Chief of Zangbaling traditional area Naa Mahama Yakubu.
Addressing the farmers prior to the awards, the District Chief Executive of Kumbungu Honorable Abdul Salam Hamza Fatawu, commended the farmers of the area for feeding and contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
He said there is improvement in the Agric sector in the district over the last two years since the implementation of some interventions in to the Agriculture sector by the NPP-Nana Addo led government in the country.
The DCE mentioned that 58,604 farmers benefitted from the Planting for Food and Jobs program whiles 113,744 fertilizers and a total of 11,604 quality seed were supplied to the district for the 2019 farming season.
He said 2,660 farmers in the Kumbungu district also benefitted from the Special Rice Project initiative, whiles 557 farmers in the district also benefitted from the Planting for Export and Rural Development Program. He added that 2500 carcio seedily were also produced under the PERD program in the district.
In his address, the District Director of Agric, Alhaji Fuseini Zakaria, stated that his outfit has intensified supervision among farmers in the district despite the transportation challenges among extension officers in the district.
Satan Tuu Naa Fuseini Musah, who emerged Best District Farmer of Kumbungu district, on behalf of the awardees, thanked the Assembly for the awards and appeal to the government to make farming attractive by supporting peasant farmers to go into commercial farming in the district.
