A new Blood bank for the 6 Medical Reception Station, (6MRS) Kamina Barracks, in Tamale has been commissioned.

The facility will stock blood under favorable conditions for onward transfusions to patients requiring blood, including women in labor.

The Bank of Ghana, which funded the Blood bank, also supported with refurbishment of the emergency pediatric and female wards of the 6 Medical Reception Station.

The commissioning of the facilities, marked a major stride in strengthening healthcare services at the 6MRS which largely serves military personnel, their families and the civilian population around the catchments of the barracks.

The General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey, who jointly commissioned the facilities together with Alhaj Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, Northern Regional Manager, Bank of Ghana, said “the gesture does not only represents a physical structure but a beam of hope, a symbol of compassion and a legacy of partnership.”

Brid. Gen. Nartey said the effort of the partnership was a testimony of their shared belief in building a heathier and more resilient society where every life matter(s) and every child had a chance to thrive.

The blood bank, he explained was an essential resource in medical emergencies, surgeries and life-saving interventions, adding that the pediatric ward will become a place where children receive the care they need to overcome illness and grow into tomorrow’s leaders.

The GoC stated that the renovation of such vital units by the headquarters, Northern Command in collaboration with strategic partners like the Bank of Ghana and other entities, affirmed that meaningful progress could be built on collective action.

Brid. Gen. Nartey said while the physical structures have been restored and modernized, their continued relevance will depend on regular maintenance, adequate resources and ongoing support, thereby appealing to the partners to remain engaged.

He further commended the efforts of the leadership and staff of the 6 medical reception for their dedication, discipline and compassion. And urged them to at all-time serve as stewards with excellence.

For his part, the regional Manager of Bank of Ghana, Alhaj Abdul-Aziz Mohammed appreciated the continuous support from the security services particularly the Military in the Central Bank’s operations and activities, saying “the gesture of giving back, is a worthy one.”

He pledged further cooperation especially in well intended causes that will lead to quality of lives and transforming the nation building processes.
