“2020 elections will not be a walk over for any of the two major political parties,” says Ben Ephson

Renowned Pollster, Ben Ephson has said this year’s general elections will not be a walk over for any of the two major political parties considering the demographics of the just ended voter registration exercise by the EC.

He explained that, the major increase in voters were recorded in the Greater Accra region with over 444,000 registrants followed by the Central region with about 222, 000 which are both swing regions and not any of the strong holds of the two parties.

Speaking on the Diamond Power Drive, Ben Ephson who is also the managing editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper said ethnic groupings within the Greater Accra region will also play a major role in the forth coming elections.

He indicated that, Ewes are about 18 percent of the total population in the Greater Accra region and urged political parties not to only focus in their strong holds, but device ways of penetrating the swing regions.

The managing editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper also indicated that, the voter apathy that caused the NDC defeat in 2016 will translate into anger emanating from the alleged voter suppression during the voter registration exercise.

The renowned pollster also stated that, the impact of the NDC running mate Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will be felt among women and youth which he believed will decide the upcoming elections.

Ben Ephson however discounted the idea that, Prof Kwamena Ahoi’s latest book; titled “working with Rawlings” will affect the chances of the NDC going into the December general elections.

Even though the book since its launch has generated controversy in the public space, Mr. Ephson believed it will not change the minds of the masses.
