Zero Commercial activities in Tamale as Authorities disinfect markets.

Streets in the Tamale metropolis were empty on Thursday as residents complied with directives from the city authorities to stay at home while mass disinfection exercise was been carried out.

Both the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly had announced to the public to close all business situated along all major streets within the jurisdiction for the exercise on Thursday April 2, 2020.

Government through the Local government Ministry is undertaking a Nationwide Disinfection exercise throughout market centers, bus terminals, principal streets and some institutions in a bid to curb the spread of the deadly corona virus.

At the time diamond news visited the central business district, there was no business activity of any kind taking place.

Super Markets, Financial Institutions, Restaurants and ‘Chop Bars’ as well as wayside food sellers, and other shops and fuel stations were all closed.

Markets centers were also empty as no commercial vehicles or yellow-yellow plied the known routes.

Joint Security personnel; the Police service and the Army were positioned at various positions within the central business district to help with effective security.

The Northern regional Minister Salifu Sa-eed speaking to the media before the start of the exercise said this disinfection is different from the previous fumigation undertaken by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.

He revealed that, the chemical been used for this exercise are potent enough to kill viruses including the Corona virus.

Salifu Saeed commended the traditional rulers, opinion leaders and religious leaders for their role in education the public on the precautionary measures put out by the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health and WHO.

The disinfection exercise took place in about One Hundred and Nine (109) Market Centers, and other public places within the Northern.
