Youth Network petitions regional Minister to investigate alleged rape at the Northern School of Business.

The Northern Regional youth Network has petitioned the Northern regional Minister Salifu Sa-eed to commence investigations into an alleged rape case at the Northern School of Business involving a sick female student and a nurse.

The group, in their petition demanded that, the nurse be arrested and prosecuted for forcefully penetrating the sick student who was left under his care.

At a press conference in Tamale, convener of the group, Mohammed Jackson, called on government through the education Ministry to empower victims to report criminal and sexual abuse cases in public institutions directly to the Police for prompt investigations.

The group bemoaned the increasing cases of sexual harassments and abuses in second cycle institutions within the region and called on authorities to act quickly to guarantee the safety of students in public institutions in order to instill public confidence in the schools.

The group during their press conference lamented that, all efforts to engage management of the Northern School of Business had proved futile whiles they claim the school authorities had refused to act since the case was reported.

It will be recalled that, news broke on July 29 that a male nurse on duty at the sick bay of the Northern School of Business allegedly raped a first-year student of the school on her sickbed.

The student had reported sick, but the school nurse allegedly took advantage of her condition and raped her while classes was ongoing.

The incident, which happened on the 11th of July 2019, was reported to the school’s authority but no action had been taken.
