World Vision International-Ghana (WVIG) has distributed some relief items to some conflict displaced victims seeking refuge in Nabuli, a community within the Gushegu Municipality in the northern region.
This follows a renewed tribal clash in March 2019 between Konkonbas and Chekosis in Chereponi, which resulted in loss of lives and property.
The victims received items such as quantities of washing and bathing soaps, towels and sponges.
The Humanitarian Emergency Affairs and Security Manager of World Vision Ghana, Samuel Gmalu, said his organization visited the victims last week to assess their living conditions and realised that most of them were in poor hygienic conditions.
He said it was for this situation that the World Vision decided to give out the relief items to help improve on their hygiene and living condition.
Mr Gmalu said World Vision was also putting in efforts to work with government and other development partners to make sure that peace was restored in Chereponi so that the victims could go back to their homes.
He advised the victims to stay peacefully in the new environment they had found themselves and called on stakeholders and traditional leaders in Chereponi to call the youth to order to ensure that peace was restored in the area.
The NADMO Director for Gushegu, Mohammed Inusah, said the Nabuli community had about 920 displaced persons, majority of whom had their property burnt down and now living in poor hygienic conditions.
He, however, said the population of the displaced persons was increasing since many of the affected persons were still moving to the Nabuli community and called for more support.
Madam Nyaaba Susana, a staff midwife at the Nabuli Health Centre said the centre recorded eight safe deliveries from the victims, but most of the women wore torn and dirty clothes when they came to the centre to deliver.
She said the support from World Vision would help improve the hygiene and health conditions of the women and their babies.
