Woman Sorcerer linked to Akua Denteh’s lynching, remanded and to reappear in court on August 20

The alleged spiritualist, Sherina Mohammed, who accused 90-year-old, Akua Denteh of witchcraft, leading to her lynching at Kafaba near Salaga, has been reminded by a circuit court at Bole in the Savanna Region.

Sherina Mohammed, known also as Alhajia, aged 40, was smoked out from her hideout in Yeji in the Pru District on Monday evening. Six other suspects including Latifa Bumaye captured in a viral video participating in an alleged exorcising which resulted in Akua Denteh’s death, have all been remanded in police custody and would reappear in court.

In Court on Wednesday, the prime suspect admitted to being the one in the viral video with a whip flogging the poor old woman. She will reappear in court on August 20.

It would be recalled that on Thursday, July 23, 90 year-old, Akua Mariama Denteh, was lynched at Kafaba by some residents and a spiritualist, who accused her of witchcraft. The cruelty meted out to the old woman was captured and shared on social media and this has drawn sharp criticism and condemnation from the public including those in authority.

The deceased accusers blamed her for strange happenings in the community including underdevelopment and joblessness among the youth which have limited the progress of Kafaba.
