“We would resist any attempts to impose another person on us, as our MP” –Savelugu NPP

Some aggrieved supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savelugu Constituency on Thursday massed up at the Electoral Commission’s collation centre in the Savelugu Constituency to protest against the declaration of the 2020 parliamentary elections results for the area.

According to them, there was over voting in one of the polling stations in the Savelugu Municipality and all efforts to draw the attention of the Savelugu Municipal EC’s returning officer proved futile.

The aggrieved group insisted that the NPP 2020 parliamentary candidate for Savelugu Constituency, Alhaji Abdul Samed Gunu won the elections; hence they would resist any attempts to impose another person on them as their MP.

Tahiru Alhassan explains to Diamond News:

We the NPP in Savelugu have detected over voting at Ying polling station. We drew the attention of EC to this development to nullify the results of that polling station in line with the EC’s laws, but the returning officer and the Municipal EC director are reluctant to do that, hence we will prevent them from declaring the results,” he stated.

According to Tahiru Alhassan, the people of Savelugu constituency will ensure that, the true will of people in Savelugu is respected.

Meanwhile the agitation by the NPP supporters did not prevent the Electoral Commission on Thursday 10, December from going ahead with the declaration of the parliamentary results in Savelugu in favor of the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Jacob Iddrisu Abdulai (Wunbenkpang).
