UDS ATHLETES BREAK SEVEN RECORDS IN ONGOING GUSA GAMES

Athletes of the University for Development Studies (UDS) have broken seven records in the ongoing Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games  in Tamale as the field and track events were concluded on Friday at the Aliu Mahama Sports Satdium in Tamale.

Even though it still remains unclear which university won overall in the games as games officials are still collating results, the UDS have been impressive overall.

Speaking to Diamond Sports on our Saturday Sports Avenue Programme, director of sports at UDS Coach Ibrahim Tanko (aka of-the-road) disclosed that records broken included the 100m & 200m events by Sarfo Ansah, both the 1500m & 5000m by Elizabeth Azure, 4×100 by UDS men team, 800m by Miss Salomey whilst Christian Abasika shattered the record of the 400m women hurdles event.

Assigning reasons for this performance, Coach Tanko said it was about proper scouting and planning which his leadership at the sports department had achieved for them.

Even though he was unable to tell why UDS had always performed poorly, he was glad that this year’s performance was so far so good for the school.

Coach Tanko added that apart from the athletics which was concluded on Friday, competition in the rest of the disciplines continues next week with the entire games coming to an end on Saturday, 20th January, 2018.

He concluded by saying that UDS was still well placed to win gold in football both men and women.
