Torrential rains leaves parts of the Tamale metropolis and Sagnarigu flooded

Torrential rains that lasted between 5-6 hours, left parts of the Tamale metropolis and Sagnarigu drenched and many households displaced.

Several homes were flooded and residents had many of their properties including electronics, livestock and foodstuff either affected or completely destroyed.

The Communities affected include; Gumani, Kalariga, Nyanshagu, Kulnyevila and Fou.

This is not the first time the communities have been flooded most especially Gumani, Karalaga and Kulnyevila, however this is the first time residents of Nyanshagu are claiming to have experienced flooding in their area.

Some of the residents at Nyanshagu, explaining to Diamond news on off tape, attributed the latest floods in the area to an abandoned road project in the area.

The residents who were counting their lost as at the time Diamond news team visited the community, appealed to the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly to intervene by asking the contractor to return to site before lives are lost.

“We want the contractor to come back and complete the works. You can see how we are suffering. We never experienced this..  This is too much for us”, one residents at Nyanshegu lamented.

Meanwhile the assemblyman of Nyashagu, SAYIBU ABUKARI on his part told Diamond News, the floods could have been prevented had the abandoned road project which comes with drainage system, been completed.

 “The last time I got in touch with the contractor he said he had run out of funds and so he will write to government to pay him some money so that he can finish the work. I even ask him knowing very well he has no money to complete the work, why he the excavation, which had cause this mess?” he queried.
