Zoomloin Ghana Limited has begun the third phase of the disinfection exercise in all Senior High Schools in the Northern Region in preparedness towards the re-opening of schools on October 5, 2020.
The exercise, which is being undertaken by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited is part of government’s measures in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The exercise is expected to end before schools re-open on October 5, 2020 as directed by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 16th televised address to the Nation on measures taken by his government to combat the spread of the virus.
During this period Zoomloin Ghana will disinfect various facilities within the schools, these include; classrooms, ICT labs, assembly halls, administration blocks, dining halls, libraries, dormitories, bungalows, among others.
The Northern Regional Manager of Zoomlion Pater Dawuni who led the exercise said it was part of measures by the government to fight the spread of COVID-19 and also safeguard SHSs and Basic school children from contracting the novel virus.
He revealed that, about 79 Senior High Schools (SHSs) and 5,200 Basic Schools in the region are expected to be disinfected.
He appealed to management of the various schools to cooperate with the team to ensure a successful exercise since some of the school authorities always refuse to open their facilities for disinfection.
Some of the schools disinfected so far include; Tiyumba School, Kalponhin S.D.A School and Bamba International Academy Complex.
Others are the, Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) Tamale and Dabokpa Technical Institute.
At the Dabokpa Technical Institute, Headmistress of the school, Mariam Mahama said the school had put in measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and explained that the school has produced enough face masks and veronica buckets to compliment what government will provide.
She said the school as a technical school has also self-financed and constructed some facilities to accommodate students upon their return and to ensure social distancing.
Assistant headmaster at the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale, Abdul Nasir Ismaella thanked the government and Zoomlion for the exercise.
He said management of the school were prepared to receive the students back to school, and indicated that COVID-19 safety protocols have been put in place to ensure that the students are protected from the virus.
