The chiefs and people of Kalpohini Community in the Tamale North Constituency of the Sagnarigu Municipality can now have a sigh of relief, after the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alhassan Dahamani starts the clearing of a huge refuse dump in the area.
The NPP parliamentary candidate took the initiative upon himself to evacuate the refuse in the area, after the chief of Kalpohini Community, Naa Abubakari Mahama II openly made an appeal to him at his palace and expressed worry about insanitary conditions in the area. The refuse dump has been abandoned for over 9 years and is located in front of his palace.
The chief made the appeal when the NPP parliamentary candidate paid a courtesy call on him at Kalpohini chief’s palace to officially formalize himself to the chief as the NPP PC for the ʒTamale North constituency.
Residents of the area complained to Diamond News indicated that the unbearable foul smell emanating from the dump is a worry to them. They said it has led to the influx of insects, particularly houseflies to the area.
They added that with the menace of cholera hanging in the air, it would not be surprising if there should be an outbreak of the disease in the area.
However they said the intervention of the NPP parliamentary candidate Alhassan Dahamani, has brought a sigh of relief to them in the area. Some of the residents who expressed their gratitude to the NPP PC however accused the member of parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini for his initial attempt to stop the exercise.
In an interaction with Diamond News, the NPP parliamentary candidate expressed his readiness to make Tamale North a clean constituency in the Northern Region. He said a similar evacuation exercise will be carried out in Nyanshegu, Choggu and other communities to reduce the menace of disease outbreak in the area.
“Our clueless member of parliament lied his way out. Now look at how he has messed up the entire constituency. I thought he could have continued where I stopped, but he was unable to do so. So I am ready to continue where I stopped to develop this constituency. I am ready to work because this clueless MP lied to the people of Tamale North and they are now suffering”, he indicated.
The ruling New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate Alhassan Dahamani, further assured the people of Kalpohini that, he has put in place measures to complete the abandoned rural electrification project in the area to enable the area hooked up to the national grid.
He said his outfit is working closely with the Urban Roads department to commence work on some roads in the constituency.
