TAMALE METRO WINS INTER-DISTRICTS SPORTS COMPETITION IN YENDI

Tamale Metro emerged victorious in this year’s annual basic schools inter-districts sports competition that took place in Yendi.

The ten-day event saw selected players and athletes from basic schools across the various districts from the entire Northern Region in attendance.

Disciplines competed in included football (boys and girls), netball, handball, volleyball, table tennis and athletics all boys and girls.

At the end of the athletics finals on Thursday evening, Tamale Metro won the laurels for both boys and girls which does saw them crowned overall champions of the games.

The Tamale Metro team placed first in the football girl’s competition after beating Kpandai district 2-0 in the finals also on Thursday. In the boy’s football competition, the metro team were third.

Tamale Metro narrowly lost in the finals of the Handball boys after a 7-8 result saw Kpandai district emerge winners in that discipline.

The Metro team again lost narrowly to West Gonja in the Netball girls finals by a 15-16 score line.

Host Yendi took both the Volleyball boys and girls events. Yendi beat East Gonja 3-0 in the boys finals and beat Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District 3-1 in the Volleyball girl’s finals.

At the end of the games, athletes were selected from all of the 26districts in the northern region to participate in the inter-regional basic schools sports festival in Koforidua later this year.

Soccer Girls: Tamale Metro

Soccer Boys: Central Gonja District

Volleyball (Boys and Girls): Yendi Municipal

Athletics (Boys and Girls): Tamale Metro

Handball (Boys and Girls): Kpandai District

Table Tennis (Boys and Girls): Sagnarigu Municipal

Netball Girls: West Gonja

Cross Country Boys: Nanumba South

Cross Country Girls: Chereponi

Overall Champions: Tamale Metro
