Tamale Businessman, Alhaji Illiasu Sulemana who stands accused for stealing government vehicle now granted bail worth 150,000 cedis.

The Tamale High court has granted bail to businessman, Alhaji Illiasu Sulemana, who was accused of stealing a Toyota Hilux pick-up belonging to the newly created Savannah regional coordinating council.

He was admitted to a Ghc 150.000 bail with a surety. He is expected to reappear in court on November 27, 2019.

Mr. Sulemana pleaded not guilty when State prosecutor Salia Abdul-Quddus read out his charge of stealing in open court.

Lawyer for the accused Esther Nimegabeka pleaded for a bail and said her client was a well-known businessman who owns several properties within the Metropolis and therefore would avail himself for court proceedings anytime.

She told the court her client has never declined Police invitation to aid in investigation whiles on the Police inquiry bail since the case started in July.

Presiding Judge His Lordship Richard Kugyapwah before his ruling said there was no compiling reason for the court not to grant the accused person bail.

It will be recalled that, Diamond FM reported in July, the theft of one of the new vehicles President Nana Akufo-Addo recently handed over to the newly created Savannah Region.

The Toyota Hilux pick-up with registration number ER 3516-19 went missing on July 6, 2019 after the Savannah regional Minster Adam Salifu transited Tamale to Accra on July 4 and placed the vehicle in the custody of Alhaji Sulemana Illiasu.

Alhaji Illiasu Sulemana later reported to the Police on July 6 that at about 9:00 pm, four armed men abducted him and pick him away with the vehicle and later released him in a nearby bush and took away the vehicle and his personal amount of Ghc 200.00 cedis.

Alhaji Sulemana upon Police investigations was arrested as the prime suspected and was therefore charged with stealing.
