All is set for the inauguration of the latest regional branch of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG). The Northern Regional Branch will be inaugurated on Saturday 31st October, 2020. It joins the likes of Volta, Western, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo as the newly inaugurated regional branches of the association of sports journalist in Ghana with international recognition.
SWAG national president Kwabena Yeboah will lead a delegation of national executives to the Northern Regional capital, Tamale on Saturday for the event. It follows the current SWAG leadership’s resolve to ensure the association spreads its tentacles to the nook and cranny of Ghana.
The inauguration of the Northern Regional Branch will take place at the Pioneer Guest Lodge located at the Watterson Residential area behind the Regional Coordinating Council at 9:00am.
Dignitaries from the crème de la crème of sports in the region will be in attendance. Invitations have been sent to the regional minister Salifu Saeed, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Iddrisu Musah ‘superior’ and MCE for Sagnarigu Municipal, Iddrisu Mariam. Others are minority leader in parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu and MP for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini. The rest are Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairman, Alhaj Abu Hassan Mahamadu Rhyzo, a former headmaster of Tamale Senior High School and sports enthusiast Mr. Wilberforce Shaibu Adam, chairman of the Referees Association (RAG), northern region, A.A. Alhassan, chairman of Football Coaches Association, northern region and Chief Executive Officers of all Division One clubs in the northern region.
Apart from Pioneer Guest Lodge who are venue sponsors of the event, two fast food joints in Tamale, Shallot De Eatery and Progress Fast Food have all partnered to organize a successful event on Saturday.
Benevolent individuals such as the RFA chairman Alhaj Abu Hassan Rhyzo, Real Tamale United (RTU) board member Alhaj Alhassan Alolo, Alhaj Savannah of Savannah constructions and a former Tamale Metro Football Association chairman Umar Farouk Abdul Karim have all supported in diverse ways to the organization of Saturday’s event.
Mobilization for the formation of SWAG Northern Region started way back in January, 2018. And since then members have not looked back but have waited for so long to be inaugurated by the national parent body.
Sports journalist across the length and breadth of the northern region are expected to be present for the program.
The inauguration is also expected to have SWAG Upper West Region and SWAG Upper East Region in attendance for all the three northern regions to be inaugurated at once.
