Stop stigma, it undermines efforts at stemming the spread of corona virus, says Medical Expert.

An Adviser to the National COVID-19 Response Team, Dr. Ama Kyerewaa Edwin, has advised against stigma, saying it undermined efforts at stemming the spread of the virus as it discouraged people with symptoms of the disease from seeking medical help.

Dr. Edwin gave the advice at Tuesday’s press briefing in Accra, organized by the Ministry of Information on Ghana’s Corona Virus situation

She also cautioned against the spread of rumours and fake news and said these were brewing confusions that were brewing in peoples’ minds and perceptions.

Meanwhile, Ghana has recorded 70 more cases of Corona virus, bringing the total number of cases to 636, has confirmed.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS)’s website gave the breakdown of the 636 positive cases as follows: seventeen (17) have been treated, reverted to negative on repeat tests and discharged, 605 cases have been categorised as mild disease and are on treatment, two (2) are categorized as moderate to severe cases, none in critical state currently and eight (8) have died. Information on GHS’s website reads.

It adds: “Of the 636 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 268 were reported from the routine surveillance, 253 from enhanced surveillance activities and 115 from travellers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale.”
