Speed up work on Yapei and Buipe Bridges-Frustrated Commuters to Highway Ministry

Road users most especially Passengers have expressed concerns over the slow pace of maintenance works on the Yapei and Bupei Bridges in the central Gonja district of northern region.

The two main bridges that connect the north to the southern of the country which has been operational for forty years and without any major rehabilitation works, are heavily deteriorated, prompting the swift intervention of the ministry of Highways on Monday 20th November, to order the closure of the bridges, to make way for major maintenance works.

This development Diamond news can report,has paved way for Okada operators and Engine powered tricycle operaters to cash in on desperate travelers who desire continuing their journeys on that stretch to the South of Ghana.

On a visit by the news team to the area on Tuesday, prices of essential commodities and foodstuffs, had shoot up, a situation the traders blamed, on high cost of transporting it.

Expressing their frustrations to Diamond News at Yapei, the visibly disturbed passengers, made an urgent appeal to Government and the Ministry Highways, to speed work on the two main bridges to ease their transportation difficulties.

Meanwhile the minister of Roads and highways briefing members of parliament about the work plan estimated that the rehabilitation works would last for four weeks, and would cost the state some Ghc4 million.
