Sixty-bed hospital at Tolon which has been under ‘lockdown’ for 7 months, now handed over to the District Health Directorate

Vamed Engineering Limited, the contractors that worked on the Tolon District Hospital, on Wednesday officially handed over the facility to the District Health Directorate.

The 60-bed Ultra-Modern Hospital for the Tolon District, is one of the six medical facilities which was started three (3) years ago.

The other facilities are the 80 Bed Hospital at Somanya in the Eastern Region; 80 Bed District Hospital at Buipe in the Savannah Region; 60 Bed Hospital at Wheta in the Volta Region; 60 Bed Hospital at Sawla in the Savannah Region and a 30 Bed Polyclinic at Bamboi in the Savannah Region.

The handing over of the facility comes a day after the Communication Secretariat of National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area issued a press statement expressing their disappointment over government’s inability to operationalize the facility since its commissioning by the vice-president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in November 2020.

The District Health Director of Tolon, Madam Joana Kwaku, at Wednesday morning’s official handing over of the facility said management and staff of the Hospital have reasons to be excited because this will go a long way to widen the scope of their services alongside attracting adequate skill-mix of critical staff.

She indicated that the district for the past years has been operating with only 20 health centers, hence the release of the district hospital will go a long way to reduce  congestion at the various health facilities across the district.

Madam Kwaku called on chiefs and the people in the area to cooperate with the staff at the health facility to enable them deliver quality.

A representative of Tolon Naa and Chief of Tali, Naa Abdulai Yakubu

Chief of Tali, Naa Abdulai Yakubu, commended the government for ensuring that the District received its fair share of the national cake. He called on the staff that will be posted to the facility, to be more professional in the delivery of quality service for the people.
