Sheanut dealers want stalled market project at Abuabu to get urgent funding to enable the contractor finish work

Shea nuts and sorghum dealers association in the Tamale metropolis have expressed worry over delays in the completion of the Aboabo Sheanut Market project.

According to the traders, works on the project had come to a standstill for several months although the contractor is still at site, but doing nothing.

Government of Ghana in 2014 undertook some developmental projects in the Tamale metropolis including the upgrading of the Aboabo Sheanut market which was started by the Achempong regime, but later abandoned, to promote the trading of shea nuts in the Region. However the project has almost stalled.

The project is being funded by the French government under its Overseas Development Agency (AFD) and the Government of Ghana (GOG).

leader of sheanut and sorghum dealers association Alhaji Imoro Alhassan speaking to Diamond News on the stalled progress of work, appealed to the city authorities to provide the contractor with the necessary resources to the to enable the project to be completed since the delays had led to an increase in stealing of their wears which are often left in the open.

‘’We are not happy about the current state of the market which has seen not much progress in 4 years. Our wares go missing and we are losing our capital. We are appealing to the assembly to give the necessary funding to the contractor to finish the work for us. We are prepared to occupy the facility at it is, if management of TMA give us order. When we go there we can maintain the structure the way we want and then we can collaborate with the assembly to generate revenue.’’ Alhaji Imoro Alhassan stated.

Meanwhile the contractor working on the project Alhaji Issah Mohammed Habib, explained to Diamond News that the assembly had failed to released the second chunk of funds meant for the project to him which was raised by the former trade minister now minority leader in parliament, Lawyer Haruna Idrrisu and thus has caused the delay. he explained further
