A joint military and police operation within the Tamale Metropolis has led to the arrest of 18 suspected criminals who had in their possession substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The 18 suspected criminals were picked up at the Tamale Technical University area, Kaladan and Jisonaayili areas.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, the swoop is to improve the state of insecurity in the Metropolis.
He said the exercise will continue at other places in the Metropolis to rid it of all criminal elements and ensure the safety of citizens.
He therefore called on inhabitants within the region to support the police with information leading to the arrest of criminals in the Metropolis and the region at large.
All the suspects have been detained by the Regional Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations.
