Safia Rahaman brace seal Pearlpia Ladies win over Prisons Ladies

Former Black Queens captain Safia Abdul Rahaman grabs a brace in Pearlpia Ladies 2-1 win over Prisons Ladies in the maiden edition of the Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee Special competition at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports stadium.

Safia opened the scoring in the early hours of the game when Basira Neindow heads in a cross with the former Black Queens captain controls beautifully and dribble past two defenders in the penalty area and slotted the ball at the back of the net to put Pearlpia Ladies in the lead.

The mother of three kids second goal came in the 42nd minute through another combination with Basira Neindow after the former Dahinsheli Ladies attacking midfielder pull out a ball nicely in the sixteen yard box of Prisons Ladies, with Safia again coolly tapped in to double her tally.

Prisons Ladies had their consolation in the 65th minute through Pearlpia Ladies goalkeeper Diana Amoaba Attiah blunder after she failed to grab a shot, with Prisons Ladies striker Zabanu Edith Sasakor capitalised on that mistake and guided the ball into the net.

Safia Abdul Rahaman who captained the Black Queens in the 2016 Africa Women’s Championship in Cameroon, was very instrumental throughout the entire 90minutes of the game as she provided both midfield and defensive duties in the latter part of the game when Prisons Ladies piled up the pressure to get the equaliser in the latter part of the second half.

The playmaker who was part of Ghana’s team that won gold in the All African Games in 2015 in Congo Brazaville also competed in four Africa Women’s Championship for Ghana in 2008, 2010, 2014 and the 2016 edition.

The 32 year who played in the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China, rejuvenated her football career when she competed for Pearlpia Ladies in the just ended BANUMA Top 4 competition in Tamale late last February.

Pearlpia Ladies will play Ampem Darkua Ladies in their next match of the competition in midweek at the Nana Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.
