The board of directors of Real Tamale United (RTU) Football Club is engaged in what can be described as a verbal tag-of-war over who and who to include in the team to manage the fortunes of the club for the next season which begins in the second week of February.
The pride of the north has been without a management team since the closing stages of last season after the resignation of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) headed by Alhaji Alhassan Alolo.
Board member, Alhaji Alhassan Alolo was head of an IMC that was constituted by the board to oversee the affairs of the club for last season but later resigned. In a letter copied to the media, Alhaji Alolo and his colleagues cited ‘personal reasons’ to the board who are yet to either accept or reject the said resignation letter.
However, the current development comes as a surprise to many when a whatsapp chat message from board secretary Jones Abu Alhassan explained the outcome of a meeting with the regional minister, honourable Salifu Saeed had constituted a five member management committee to run the club for a two year term.
The message kept Alhaji Abuba Shaibu, Managing Director of Nasona Oil as chairman, Mr. Muaz Abdulai Choo, an old player as a member, Mr. Mohammed Asamoah, a football administrator as a member, Mr. Yussif Shaibu, a trader as a member and Mr. Issaka Sidique, a representative of the supporters union as a member.
The message from the board secretary also listed an advisory council with the following members: Mr. Adam Nantogmah, Alhaji Anafa, Mr. Mahamadu Buaru and one Alhaji Baba Issahaku.
The statement added that “these decisions are tentative, taken in view of the time constraints, and are therefore subject to ratification by the full board at a subsequent date.”
However, hours after this message made its way into various whatsapp chat platforms, another board member, Alhaji Adam Munkaila (Admun) reportedly rejected the above designations in a reply intercepted by Diamond Sports as “ Jones consider what you have done as null and void. Ok who and who were there when you took that decision, nonsense.”
The board secretary Jones Abu Alhassan is yet to reply to this message and neither the regional minister nor the other stakeholders have reacted to this development.
