Panelists at a youth policy dialogue in Tamale have called for collaborative effort among civil society organizations towards the immediate review of the Ghana National Youth Policy, three years after its implementation period.
The reviewed policy they believed, would inculcate more youth targeted policies and programs for the development of the youth alongside resourcing them to fully participate in all decision making processes in the national development agenda.
Top among issues pushed for is the creation of a new ministry responsible for the development and implementation of youth targeted policies and programs since the recent ministry of youth and sports is more focused on sports development.
Northern Pragrammes manager at ActionAid Ghana Esther Boateng who was a panel member, explained to Diamond news that, a new ministry responsible for youth development would ensure that the youth are well represented at all levels.
Training and Capacity building manager at Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES Ghana) Eric Saforo for his part said there was the need for such dialogue to collate views that will help government review and implement a National youth policy that is fit for purpose.
The youth policy dialogue focus on multi-stakeholder engagement that draws the perspectives and insights of government, civil society, academia, and the youth to discuss pertinent issues to the Ghanaian youth in light of the upcoming review of the National Youth Policy.
The youth policy which was on the theme “Improving youth participation in public policy decision-making” was organized by the Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES Ghana) and supported by the commonwealth foundation.
