Some prospective applicants of the Ghana Card are calling on the National Identification Authority (NIA) to consider extending the closing date for the ongoing registration exercise in the Northern region.
According to them, the exercise has faced several challenges; hence, majority of the inhabitants in the region will be unable to be covered if the duration is not extended.
The NIA is expected to end registration in the Northern, Savannah and the North East regions which simultaneously commenced registration on October 04 at close of day on October 24, 2019.
But some of the applicants expressing their predicaments through Diamond News recounted that the process has been marred with challenges including network challenges, frequent breakdown of machines and long queues. They therefore called on authorities to extend the closing date.
Some of the applicants who claimed they had gone to the centre at about 5:00am bemoaned the delays in the registration processes and also accused some of the registration officials of jumping the long queues in favour of family and friends.
At about 11:00 am, registration officials at the Tamale Technical University registration centre were turning away large number of applicants who had gone to the centre for the exercise with the reason that they had reached their limit for the day.
Meanwhile, frantic efforts by Diamond News to reach the Corporate Communications Director at the NIA, ACI Francis Pamdetti to respond to the concerns were unsuccessful.
At the time of going to press, ACI Francis Pamdetti was unable to respond to his WhatsApp and Text messages. His phone was also not reachable.
