Proposed North East region obtains 100% votes in referendum

The proposed North East region has garnered hundred percent (100%) votes in the Thursday referendum.

The affected areas carve out from the Northern region to the proposed region include Chereponi, West Mamprusi, Mamprugu/Moagduri, East Mamprusi, Bunkprugu and the Yunyoo District.

The Northern regional returning officer of the electoral commission, Mr. John Mensah declaring the result revealed 255,424 being the total registered voters for the proposed North East region.

He said 205,804 voters turnout for the referendum, with 205,121 voting ‘yes’.

Mr. John said four hundred, and forty seven (447) representing 0% voted ‘No’, against the popular votes. He added that two hundred thirty six (236) of the votes representing o% were rejected.

On the face of the figures, the returning officer said the proposed region have been considered as a newly created region.

He has therefore urged the citizenry to cooperate, and accept the result.
